Vim, short for Vi IMproved, is a free and cross‑platform text editor that originated as an enhancement of the classic Vi created by Bill Joy in 1976. Since its release in 1991, Vim has evolved with new versions and extensions that have made it a standard tool for programmers and system administrators on Unix/Linux systems.
