Sega is a Japanese entertainment company founded in 1960 whose arcade history encompassed machine manufacturing and distribution, game development, and arcade venue operations. Its work with electromechanical machines such as Periscope and, later, arcade systems such as Model 1 and Model 2 makes it a significant subject for understanding the technical and commercial development of arcade gaming from the late 1960s onward.
