A portable prototype built by Kodak engineer Steven Sasson in 1975 to capture images electronically. It recorded low-resolution black-and-white images and stored them on cassette tape; its significance lies in demonstrating how digital capture, storage and display could be combined in a photographic system, although it was not a commercial product.
